About

In over 20 years, in-house and as a freelancer, I’ve worked on hundreds of titles in a wide variety of genres, and with numerous clients, all with unique requirements and tight deadlines. I’ll work with you to bring out the best in your book, whatever the subject.

My knowledge of the production process is comprehensive. I keep up to date with the latest editing methods and software, and work quickly and to a high standard. From a glint of an idea to print-ready proofs or digital files, as an experienced production and desk editor, I can guide at every stage.

Cookery is one of my specialist subjects, particularly baking. My own book Traditional Scottish Recipes is on its eighth reprint. I am an accomplished sugar artist and participated in creating an award-winning, entirely edible jungle exhibit at the Cake & Bake Show (2014). And – in a sub-genre that is admittedly rare – I’ve helped develop several comedy cookbooks, like the number-one bestseller and Gourmand-Award-winning Maw Broon’s Cookbook.

From cookery to crime: I’m now enjoying developmental, line editing and proofreading of commercial fiction, including four crime series  – varying in style from cosy-crime to gritty realism – and working both directly with authors, and also with in-house managing editors.

Some examples of my typesetting work are available on my Portfolio page. Most of these I also edited.
